Art Academy Mudkip promo sells for $3,720,000 at Fanatics auction
Sports Illustrated reports a 2015 Art Academy Daisuke Ochiai Mudkip promo, one of only three graded PSA 10, sold for $3,720,000 at the Fanatics September Premier Auction. Four days earlier, a PSA 10 Gold Star Mudkip had taken $1,020,000 at a Fanatics Weekly auction.
Art Academy promos are genuinely thin — only 100 of this Mudkip exist — so when the right two bidders meet, records happen. Seven figures for a character most collectors never chased tells you the top end is paying for scarcity, not fame.
